The policies, procedures, and information in this document apply to all devices Foothills Regional High School students use.

Device Care and Use
Students attending Foothills Regional High School are required to adhere to the expectations outlined in this document.

Note: hereafter, “District” refers to Foothills Regional High School; the term “device” includes Chromebooks and any other assigned technology resource.

General Device Use Expectations

Do not subject devices to rough treatment.
Close devices and carry them with two hands.
Do not allow pressure to be placed on screens.
Do not store anything within a device between keyboard and screen.
Only use a soft, dry, or anti-static cloth to clean the device.
Do not use food or drink near your device.
Do not deface your device in any way (including writing, stickers, labels, etc.).
Do not leave your device in an unsecured area (this includes a vehicle).
Students may be selected at random by teachers or administrators to provide their devices for inspection for damages or misuse.
Know where your device is at all times.
Store your device in a safe place where it will not be removed without your permission and will remain secure until you use it again.
Any broken or non-functioning device should be taken to the Site Director or their designee.

Software on Devices
All necessary software and apps will be installed and managed through the District. Students will not be able to install additional apps on their devices.

Receiving and Returning Your Devices

Receiving Your Device: Parents & students must sign and return the Foothills Device Policy Guidelines (included in the Foothills Student Handbook) before their child can use a device.
Returning Your Device: In exceptional circumstances, devices might be issued to a student for use off campus. In such cases, devices must be returned to the assigned site if a student withdraws, graduates, or transfers out of the District during the school year.

Fines for Damage or Loss

If a student’s device and/or AC power adapter have been damaged or defaced, the student will be billed either for the repair or replacement of the device, the adapter, or both.
If a student's device is not returned upon graduation or withdrawal from the district, and the site administrator has requested for the device to be returned, the matter will be turned over to local law enforcement.

Device Acceptable Use
The Device Acceptable Use Plan outlines the parameters for families to protect the devices and the District’s investment in them.

The Foothills Regional High School is pleased to be able to offer access to the District devices, which provide the necessary programs required to complete coursework. The District’s network provides access to email, student data cloud storage, and the Internet. To gain access to these resources, students and parents must sign and return the Foothills Student Handbook, which includes the Device Policy Guidelines.
It is not permissible for students to access materials that are not considered educational or to use a device beyond its educational intent. For this reason, it is extremely important that District Acceptable Use policies be followed. Misbehavior could result in temporary or permanent loss of access to the Internet, email, or other technology privileges. Violations may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension/ expulsion for students. When applicable, law enforcement agencies may be involved.
The use of the District’s technology resources is a privilege, not a right. The privilege of using the technology resources provided by the District is not transferable or extendible by students to people or groups outside the district and terminates when a student is no longer enrolled in the District. This policy is provided to make all users aware of the responsibilities associated with efficient, ethical, and lawful use of technology resources. If a person violates any of the User Terms and Conditions named in this policy, privileges may be terminated, access to District technology resources may be denied, and appropriate disciplinary action shall be applied. The District’s Code of Conduct shall be applied to student infractions.
The use of the District’s technology resources is subject to the following terms and conditions: The use of technology resources must be for educational and/ or research purposes consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the District, along with State & Federal regulations. In compliance with federal law, the District shall make reasonable efforts to restrict access to inappropriate materials and shall monitor the online activities of the end users in the school environment. User accounts are considered the property of the District. Network administrators may review school computers to maintain system integrity and to ensure that users are using the system responsibly. Users should not expect that anything stored on school computers or networks will be private. Upon graduation or withdrawal from the District, student accounts, including email and access to Google Drive, are automatically suspended.
Use of any information obtained via the District’s designated Internet System is at your own risk. The District specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services.
